These works emphasise the detail and tonal variations of beautiful objects from my garden, from amazing bush walks in the Blue Mountains, and from my studio. As I find the objects so beautiful, I used pencil and charcoal as my medium as I wanted the form, tonal ranges, textures, fluid lines and unique characteristics to be emphasised with minimal distraction from surrounding imagery and colour. The initial line work for the charcoal banksia pod work was drawn using a burnt banksia pod which was lots of fun.
The two fibre-works are produced with dried Banksia flower spikes and Protea Florets. I find these elements of the plant so beautiful so wanted them to be shown in their natural form taking on a shape that emulates the original flower they came from, a Banksia pod and a Protea flower.
